Episode 4: Real Garden Care Stories

For the new episode of Real Garden Care Stories we are in Surte, Sweden, and speak with Robert Larsson. He’s 60 years old and lives on the first floor of an apartment building. The community consists of 2 apartment buildings and some communal green spaces with different zones. 106 families live here.

Robert is part of a team of six neighbors who volunteer to take care of the gardens. They do it for free because they love their community and want everyone to enjoy it.

Life before robot mower

For years, they used a STIGA Park machine with a cutting deck and a sweeper. This solution worked well for many years, however they decided to simplify the process and bring in a robot mower

The robot now takes care of the central lawns and the area behind the buildings. It keeps the grass neat, same height, same look — every day.

The result? A greener, healthier lawn that looks good all season long.

The robot mower experience

Managing the robot is simple, making it easier for Robert to keep an eye on things. The team enjoys working with the robot and seeing the great results. They have fun switching up the mowing patterns.

There are some parts along the edges and borders, where the robot can't reach, but Robert and his friends are happy to trim those areas by hand.

It's a delight to witness the importance of green spaces for the community. Around the two buildings, there are a few special places that bring people together — a play area for children, and some quiet corners where older residents like to sit and talk.

It is their place. And they’re proud to keep it green — together.
