The time has come for the first mowing of the season and we would like to give you some tips on how to get it right.
Firstly, because the lawn is tall and compact, it is important to collect the first cut of the season, so use a lawn mower with a collection bag.
Collecting is ideal for the first mowing of the season and when there are weeds that need to be removed.
Once done, if the grass and garden conditions are ideal, mulching can be a good option to continue caring for the lawn.
Two years ago, we started a collaboration with the University of Padua, DAFNAE and Prof. Macolino to develop research on mulching.
Through a scientific and experimental approach, we have outlined the effectiveness and synergy of this mowing technique.
We have looked at how the use of mulching alone, the combination of both mulching and fertiliser use, and finally the careful management of fertiliser levels in conjunction with mulching affect the health and overall appearance of the lawn. These results provide valuable insights into optimising lawn care practices to improve quality and resistance to environmental stresses.
Let's see together why and when this technique is applicable to your garden.
The overall benefits of mulching
Let's start by looking at the benefits of mulching alone.
When we tested the mulching method using only one of our Combi mowers, the results took a little longer to see, but they were clear and long-lasting, especially in extreme weather conditions such as severe cold or scorching heat.
Thanks to mulching, the overall quality of the lawn improves considerably:
- greatly improved lawn aesthetical appearance and lawn health. These results have been visible after a few months of mulching mows.
- reduction of certain types of weeds if supported also by removal activity.
Decrease the use of fertiliser
If you are already using fertiliser, you can optimise the results by integrating the use of mulching.
While fertiliser alone has its positive effects, combining it with mulching leads to a synergy that maximises the benefits of both methods. The growth and overall health of the lawn benefit greatly from this combination.
