What is the proper way to store your robotic lawn mower when not in use, for example during winter? In this article you will discover how to best store your robotic lawn mower when mowing season is over. Scroll down and get all the info you need, we'll help you get started!

When is the best time to store your robot for winter?

Here are our tips to properly store your autonomous robot mower:

The machine's storage should be done after completing the last cut of the season and after having cleaned the robot properly.
This can vary from area to area, e.g. in southern Europe this can be done towards the end of October, whereas for northern European areas the last cut should be done towards the end of September/beginning of October; of course, it depends on the temperatures.

How to clean your robotic lawn mower

Before storing your robot mower for the winter, clean it well by following the steps below:

  • Keep the dashboard closed during the entire cleaning process;
  • Keep the robot in the working position (i.e. horizontal, wheels down) if you are using a direct water flow for cleaning. Always keep the dashboard cover closed.
  • If the robot is upside down during the cleaning process (e.g. if you are cleaning the blades), simply use a brush. No direct water flow is allowed when the robot is upside down. This position could allow dust, grass or water to penetrate into the more delicate mechanical parts of the robot mower;
  • Use a gentle brush to remove stubborn dirt;
  • Use a wet cloth to clean the STIGA robot mower.

How do you store your autonomous robot mower for winter?

During winter season, let your robot "rest", in order to be ready for the new mowing season.
The docking and the reference station can be left in the garden, even though we highly recommend to cover them and protect from rain, cold and snow.
It's easy, just use a nylon bag, or a simple water-resistant box.
As regards the robot mower, it is better to bring it inside and store it in its pack or box. Let it "rest" for the whole winter in a dry and warm place.
Before the final storage, don't forget to take some time to properly clean the robot.

What happens to the residual data traffic of my robotic lawn mower when I put it away for winter?

Before storing the robot, log into the STIGA.GO App and select the ''hibernation'' function to pause the robot mower during winter time.
When you put it in hibernation mode, the working hours (data traffic) will be freezed and won't be used up until you start the robot mower again in mowing season.

What to do while your robot mower is stored for the winter?

Take advantage of this time to get ready for the new season: tidy up your garden, plant some seeds in your lawn and do some maintenance.
