In the Garden with GiantVeg : Preparing for Autumn

The hedge cutting season is in full flow and this will probably be our last cut of the season.  We’ve been busy cutting the laurel hedges with the long-reach hedge trimmer.

This allows us to reach the top of our laurel hedges at over 4 metres.  The STIGA SPH 700 AE battery-powered Hedge trimmer can also be turned at six different angles, allowing us to trim even the most hard-to-reach areas.

We’ve also been carrying out some summer pruning with the Stiga Long Reach battery-powered Pole Pruner - Stiga SPS 700 AE. Both bits of equipment have allowed us to maintain the hedges from the ground without the need to climb up ladders.  The battery life is excellent and the power from both machines is incredible.  They really have changed my mindset on battery tools.

Stiga’s new Combi 748 SQ AE lawnmower continues to perform well and has provided a season of mowing.  The lawn that was overseeded in the Spring now feels like a carpet to walk on.  If you haven’t yet tried out the battery-powered lawnmower, I’d recommend visiting your local Stiga dealer to see them for yourself.

Here are a few tips for you out in the garden;

  • Clear weeds from joints in paving and driveways.  You could even get the power hose out and give the footpaths and driveway a clean-up.
  • Support border perennial plants using canes.  We use the Twool which is a sustainable string and manufactured in the UK
  • If you fancy a new lawn or are thinking of laying turf, now is the time to start to prepare the soil for sowing a lawn or laying turf during September and October.
  • Encourage the kids out into the garden.  Take them on regular snail hunts as they will be hunting down your plants and autumnal harvests.

Happy Gardening!
